Had swap magic working but since trying to use a cheat on it no games will play. I reset and Swap magic loads and dont have any cheats active but when i go to boot the game the screen goes black as in to load but then the laser stops and a noise like its trying to work happens and then nothing. Normal PS2 games work fine but when using Swap magic and copied disc its all stopped
Sorry, downloaded copies of swap magic won't work. PS2 will see it as an invalid disc as it must be the silver pressed copy. Best case is look into the 007 AUF swap disc method, or buy a fmcb memory card (I have some for sale, email vstpower at gmail dot com for anyone who is interested)
Alright thanks, i recently got fmcb for my scph-90001 with date code 8b (pretty lucky :p) so i could run the pal version of mgs2 for speedrunning purposes. Tried running the game with a swap method using the .elf file of swap magic and it wouldn't work. Guess I just need the disc, thanks for the reply :)
ok its good tutorial but how can i do it work on my ps2 i dont know how can it work i just done all the tutorials but got the same error in ps2 "insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc" how i can i fix this?
Only one problem Project Phoenix Media that I need your help on, i've burned two copies of Xenosaga Episode 1 on a duel layer verbatim d dvd+r dl and it's giving me the "not a valid ps2 disc" any help with this?
I believe certain DL games can be converted to SL with special tools that remove the "fluff" and spacing, but not sure how this is done. Best to consult a gaming forum, not even sure if this will work on a majority of DL games. Might be better off to just buy the DL games, probably more work then its worth to get them working on Swap Magic.
I have Swap Magic 3.8 and cannot get the game to load PAL games that I bought straight from the UK. The menu starts up and I swap the discs, then select Normal>NTSC for the video format, and from there it goes to a black screen, and the game disc will slowly spin. I can't figure out why the game won't load, can someone help me??
+Project Phoenix Media yes I have an NTSC tv. I tried selecting PAL for one of my games and it worked, that game being from the UK. The others that I had been trying were actually made in Germany, idk if that makes a difference, but I'm going to try PAL video format on them too, hopefully it'll work.
+Keoni Marques CD is for booting cd based ps2 games, and DVD is for dvd based PS2 games. Swap magic is hard to find these days, suggest look into 007 method instead to make your own FMCB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp1uvnN-2z8
Dude thanks for this vid, Just got an ass-load of old retro stuff, and a PS2 happened to be in the pile with a TON of burned game's. Had no clue how to run them until i decided to youtube the Magicdisc3 dvd driver disc and found this vid. Thanks again homie!
I'm just a little lost with all these tutorials, do I need a genuine Sony memory card to do this? I read an amazon review that I need one. Also, do I need free mcboot to play burned games? I already did the paper mod. Thanks a bunch
+Andrew Nguyen Thanks for the questions, I love it. As long as the memory card has magicgate on it, it should work. I use Nyko all the time, no issues. FMCB will allow you to play burned games if it is a ps2 slim and the game iso is patched with ESR patcher before burning to disc. To be honest, I recommend gamers to use USB or play thru the network, its better performance and it doesn't destroy the laser!
SwapMagic uses it own disk? I thought you can burn swapmagic .iso on some of your blank cd-s... Now I saw that swapmagic disk tricks ps2 to think it is a ps2 actual game... MY QUESTION is: Why we don't use the same trick to play backups, sure if it is not disk itself in swapmagic's case...?
+Sanchee Swap magic needs to be a silver disc factory pressed copy. If you try to find one from the internet and burn to a dvd-r or dvd+r, your PS2 will say it is an invalid disc format and show you a red screen.
+Crazy Boy If you have fat ps2 and internal hard drive, you can try FHDB. If you have ps2 slim, you can buy fmcb memory card, or try to make your own using this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp1uvnN-2z8
Do I have to do that tape/straw/tissue MOD? I'm scared and lazy to do it. Cause my PS2 slim is also my friend's. He just wanted me to have it in my house cause he is getting an XBOX ONE. But anyway, Do I have to do that tissue/tape/straw MOD? In order to do it?
@Alejandro Sandoval Doing the tape/straw/tissue mod by itself is not enough. When you insert the burned dvd-r for ps2 game, your PS2 will give you a red screen error. If you had FMCB, you can patch the .iso with ESR patcher, and the game will work like in the following video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c-201ilSbM
The cheapest way to get FMCB is do the 007 AUF disk swap as shown in this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp1uvnN-2z8
+Alejandro Sandoval The only time you want to do this mod is if you have swap magic or FMCB and you think you are going to play ps1 games or do the 007 agent under fire disc swap mod. If you are not going to do any of those things, then you do not need to do this tape/straw/tissue mod. Remember, still need a softmod if you want to mod your ps2.
Hey man if you comment you are the best btw i have ps2 pal version and im thinking to play NTSC games is it safe to play NTSC?...I have a Fat Ps2 so is there any problem and last can i use SwapMagic Copy because i dont have credit card to buy some sorry hehehehe??
+Joshua Edradan Best to get PAL games or your games will be off center. Swap magic copy never works, and its impossible to find a legit copy anyway. See the 007 agent under fire method to make your own fmcb:
@Project Phoenix Media Hey man, i have a quick question if by anychance i would put a dvd-r backup copy of Resident Evil 4 as an example and was to run Swap Magic 3.6 through the Free McBoot menu could i just leave the disc in and will it run that way without swapping discs? Thanks!
I forgot to is my ps2 scph -77004 is softmoded and runs backup cd games and I want to ask you once again if burned swap magic cd runs on it and if the swap magic burned cd on my friends ps2 scph-90004 softmoded
Best way is get FMCB, see this video to learn how to install FMCB, and let's makes sure you got a compatible unit.
Swap magic you cannot find anymore, its hard to buy. The alternative is look into FMCB, if you have a compatible ps2 model. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8EoU5E9R8g
I do have memory cards premodded with fmcb for those who are interested to buy one. Send inquiry to vstpower at gmail dot com if interested.
I recently bought a PS2 which was already modded, it's also slim btw.
So, as I figured out from your video, I don't need swap magic, right?
Anyway, I felt nostalgic, downloaded some sega sonic games I once had and tried to use pgen, but I don't know how to burn those!
I mean I got one .elf file and two rom files, as much as I understood from another tutorial, I need to make a folder called "roms", put them in and simply burn everything to a DVD or a CD.
Is that way OK or am I missing something? I mean I got one DVD left and I'm too lazy to head to the store, so I don't wanna mess it up :D
I'm looking forward to your answer, thanks :)
a few questions here
1: just to be safe after i do the tape/tissue mod and get swap magic i am then able to play burned games and imported games?
2:will a regular old memory card work for those games
3:if all else fails and i cant play burned disk/imported games what do i need? and i dont want to use a mod chip because it aint worth the cost of my ps2
@rosavampire 1) Yes. Swap magic hard to find now, best to get FMCB. Find someone or watch my 007 agent under fire video to make your own. I also sell memory cards with FMCB if really needed.
3) FMCB is the answer. Play from usb, or play from disc if have slim ps2.
@Project Phoenix Media well you see I have a 9000x series ps2. Thanks anyways I was able to fix this. But I have a new problem: Up until 2 days ago swap magic would work but it now does some things that shouldn't.
When bootin swap magic the ps2 sometimes brings me to the browse menu
2)games become really slow while loading sometimes (causing frame rate issues, skips or even rarely freezes)
While booting a game it brings me to a black screen and nothing happens.
Sometimes the games work fine but they usually have these problems.
Any idea of what I can do?
Hey I'm having a problem with Swap Magic and I would really appreciate your help. So i just bought Swap Magic 3.8 along with the "official" tools. After some painful hours, I installed them all but when it comes to swapping the discs I run into some problems. When I load my swap magic disc it works fine, however when I switch it with my dvd-r the dvd spins at a much slower rate then it should. When it spins it makes this weird scratching sound like the ps2 is struggling to read it. I tried some other methods such as also switching the swap magic disc with an official ps2 game and the same behaviour occurred. When I placed the game into my ps2 without swap magic it worked just fine. Not like it would make a difference, but I even tried swapping discs by using a ps2 game and my dvd-r by selecting "browser" and letting it read my ps2 game, then switching out for the dvd-r. Once I switched the discs, the dvd made the same weird scratching sound. So i'm not really sure if its my swap magic disc or the problem is my ps2. Could I have installed the tools incorrectly? Help would be much appreciated! Thank you!
If you want to save some money, look into the 007 agent under fire disc swap magic method. I also sell ps2 memory cards preloaded with FMCB as another option, and it is definitely cheaper than buying swap magic 3.8. If you get the DVD version disc only, then thats fine too.
@Project Phoenix Media Right now i can only find 3.8 copys online to purchase...So i have two options: Swap Magic Coder v3.8 ( http://www.amazon.com/Swap-Magic-Coder-2-Disc-Slide/dp/B001BZCECU/ref=pd_sim_misc_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1GXMQRTACBJS155KR6DC ) or this -reviews says this one is actually 3.8 - (http://www.amazon.com/Swap-Magic-NTSC-Version-Disc/dp/B00DDZFB62/ref=pd_sim_t_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1VH2V3XM6SX34P3YZAZD) - Which one do you recommend?
I have the fat ps2 and i've been wondering how to play burned ps1 games on the ps2. This is what i have....
A lot of blank cd roms 40+ count (700mb 80 mins kind)
usb drive 8gb
ps2 and 1 memory cards (8mb)
a pc that can burn ps1 and 2 games
an untouched/non modded ps2 fat.
ps2 hard drive
magic swap disc and tools.
All i want to have is my fat ps2 running on burned ps1 discs. Idk which booters are the best method.
I also watched your playlist and i just don't know which is the most convenient of all booters without any gameplay errors or something
Any suggestions on my current state? These are the only things i have in my disposal.
What is your method to install FMCB? See the ps2 playlist and check out the 007 agent under fire video is the lowest, cheapest way if you don't know anybody who does PS2 modding. I do offer a FMCB install service for small fee, but only USA residents.
@TheOneTrueBeard No, but see the PS2 playlist. I have one method using FMCB to boot psxlauncher that allows us to play backed up PSX games via disc. I have another tutorial showing you how to play ps1 games from usb.
Hello and good morning from Mexico, if i have a clean/NO modded PS2 Slim, to play PS2 burnedgames i can use the Swap magic & Magic tools (or your Tape, Straw) Combo?? Like an Example: Using original Gameshark PS1 codes on a PS1 NO MODdED (yep years ago lol), run, install/save cheat codes on memory card, then select game, swap to game CD, start and done!!
i have a US PS2 Slim SCPH 70012 modded (matrix chip) then i can play my PS2 burnedgames with no boot etc.. right??
Thanks for your videos tutorials, you r the best =)
@Project Phoenix Media damm sorry, i forgot the "r" : Xploder to play HDTV on PS2. i only have the HDMI for PS3 (plus 2 more for my DVD and Blu ray) and the classic RGB from PS1 and PS2 (but playing them on HDTV looks like blur and less Sharp on my TV) mmm... maybe if i get a S-video/component cable do the trick.
@Project Phoenix Media ok thanks it's nice to know some other tricks to play again our favorite PS2 games =)
by the way could you please do a tutorial (when u have the time of course) about, how to play our Ps2 on HDTV?? includin Xplode settings and (i don't know if it's truth), install Xplode in FMCB.
Thanks again for your videos and have a nice weekend =)
I want to get KH2FM but just found out that since its a japanese import game it only works for japanese playstation 2s and i have a NA ps2 slim will swap magic work if i just get the game and do the same thing you did in the video?
SCPH-70004 PS2 silver slim (V12 I think, because I can install an IDE--Bus)
Swap Magic Coder 3.8 => boot => normal => PAL and before I start booting, I insertet a copy of Ratchet & Clank 3. Now the Problem, the game doesn't boot! I get thrown back to the browser and then I see a Red Screen :(
Interesting, when I press X to load the copy, the laser start scanning at the beginning of the disk (Checking Signature?) ... How can I fix it? Did I burned the game wrong? I used an .iso and burned it with IMGburn.
I just ordered one of these, hopefully I can play PAL games on my console with this. I accidentally ordered a PAL version of urban chaos (great fucking game btw). Also I mostly got this this for backups, of course.
@ENunn Productions Inc. You are correct. There is a certain date code that FMCB will not work on the newer models. The gotcha is....if you get a new PS2 today from the store, it won't be compatible. Thank heavens for used console market. xD
@Robert Lintescu Sorry, it doesn't work like that at all. Either buy it from a site like www.estarland.com, or find a friend or somehow who can help make FMCB with their modded PS2. Another alternative is buy 007 agent under fire and go on youtube and learn about making the special swap disc method so you can make your own exploit.
hey! very good vid. but i got a question. where can someone find the swap magic cd/dvd? and one more... if i dont find it, can i download the swap magic and burn it to a dvd or cd ? or it wont work? please help :)
The Definitive, One-Size-Fits- All, Accept-No Substitutes, Massively Comprehensive Guide to the Life and Times of KISS.
I love writing about Kiss. I love it too much, probably. I’ve written about this band semiconstantly for the past 20 years, sometimes for reasons that weren’t justified and sporadically with motives that weren’t justified and intermittently with logic that wasn’t justified. But Kiss go into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow, so today I’m Timothy Olyphant.
The Demon: Gene Simmons The Starchild: Paul Stanley The Spaceman: Ace Frehley The Catman: Peter Criss The Fox: Eric Carr The Ankh Warrior: Vinnie Vincent

The New York rock-and-roll group Kiss was formed in 1972, when two workaholic Jews (guitarist Stanley Eisen and bassist Chaim Witz) aligned forces with two boozehound Christians (drummer Peter George John Criscuola 1 and guitarist Paul Frehley). Their adopted stage names are household, unless you are very young, crazy old, or not interested in loud music: Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Peter Criss, and Ace Frehley (the last adopting “Ace” because the band didn’t need another Paul). The group was spawned upon the dissolution of Simmons and Stanley’s previous band, Wicked Lester, a folk-rock five-piece Simmons likes to compare to the United Nations (due to their mixture of ethnicities and nonuniform physical appearance). Wicked Lester scored a record deal with Epic, but most of the music was never officially released.
