From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

The German-born designer Karl Lagerfeld has died at the age of 85. He was a designer, an artist and a fashion icon. For this sad occasion we recommend a portrait DW made in 2014. No living fashion designer, let alone a German one, was as celebrated as Karl Lagerfeld. On September 10, 2018 the man with the trademark ponytail and sunglasses celebrated his 85th birthday. From dawn to late morning, Karl Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi and his own signature brand - a combined workload of up to 15 collections a year. A workhorse who never takes breaks or even a vacation, he is also a photographer and filmmaker. His passion for fashion was awakened by a Dior show in Hamburg in 1950. Four years later, at the age of 17, Karl Lagerfeld was hired as an assistant to Pierre Balmain. Karl Lagerfeld recounts his beginnings in the industry, as well as his upper class background and childhood in Schleswig-Holstein. Karl Lagerfeld was greatly influenced by his mother, whom he describes as his personal style icon. Karl Lagerfeld's caustic comments were notorious and dreaded by those at the receiving end. As an artist, Karl Lagerfeld worked in several media, from pictures and photographs to book illustrations and videos. The documentary of 2015 follows Karl Lagerfeld to exhibition openings, during the hectic preparations for his fashion shows, and at photo shoots in Paris as it seeks to uncover the man behind the mask. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. 10 Fashion labels commonly worn by the royal family. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In addition to being royalty, the members of the royal family are also widely regarded as fashion icons. Whenever one of them makes an important appearance, that piece of clothing is sure to skyrocket in value, before selling out immediately of course. But what brands do the royals love to wear? You might be relieved to know that some of them might not be totally out of your price range. Meghan Markle wears plenty of expensive things, but also loves the more mid-range clothing from Aritzia. Kate Middleton trusted one of her favorite labels, Alexander McQueen, with making her now famous wedding gown. Not to mention the many everyday dresses she owns from them. Even the Queen has her favorite items, including Burberry coats and Hunter rain boots. Even Prince Harry loves a nice cashmere sweater from the brand Everlane. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/

For many of us, childhood and teenage years were not a time filled with Gucci wardrobes and other luxury garments. Either we didn't have the capacity to acquire pieces of that nature, or we simply weren't interested. For the Claudio brothers that consists of Joel (18), Just (6), Jon (11) and Juven (7), they live and breath high fashion, more specifically Gucci. Ever since streetsnaps of them from London Fashion Week started circulating online, social media quickly took interest and their passion for Gucci at such a young age has breathed even more life into the classic Italian label. Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500142-Hermes-Icons-Fashion-Designers Among its many products, several Hermes bags have acquired iconic status. The first was the Kelly bag. Named for it's association with Princess Grace of Monaco, the former Grace Kelly, who was photographed in Life magazine. She was pregnant at the time and she held the bag so that it was very close to her body, kind of protecting her. So the bag has acquired kind of cult status because of the association with her celebrity. Another important style is the Birkin bag, which was designed in honor of Jane Birkin, the English actress and singer. She was apparently seated near the chairman of Hermes on an airplane flight and he noticed that when she rummaged through her purse, all her stuff fell out. And so he felt that she needed a new bag. So she had a straw bag. He designed her a beautiful leather bag and that became know as the Birkin bag.

Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500162-Karl-Lagerfeld-Fashion-Designers It's hard to imagine, but by the early 80s, the Chanel brand was not very desirable. The House of Chanel brought in Karl Lagerfeld to revitalize and renovate the brand in 1983. Lagerfeld did a great job in bringing Chanel up to speed, making the brand more appealing for the 1980s customer. He worked with existing traditions. He went through the repertoire of what was Chanel . . . what was Chanel all about? For example, Lagerfeld took the double-C logo of Chanel and used it brazenly on the outside of the clothes. He combined very modern shapes, shorter skirts, black leather jackets with existing Chanel pieces, like striped sailor jersey's that Coco Chanel was often photographed herself wearing. He did an excellent job in appealing to the 1980s customer who wanted to wear the labels on the outside, rather than on the inside. The clothes that he created for Chanel and continues to create, continue the tradition of Chanel. They're modern, they're wearable, but they're also relevant to today's customer for luxury brands.

Watch more Fashion Designers and Fashion Brands videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500170-Gucci-Accessories-Fashion-Designers Gucci added eye wear and silk scarves to their reputory of products including a flower pattern that they designed especially for Princess Grace of Monaco, the former Grace Kelly which was called Flora. They added a perfume in 1974. It was called Number One and specific Gucci design details have become very famous. One of the design details is the use of bamboo handles on their handbags which actually grew out of material shortages during World War Two. Their head designer couldn't get as much leather as he wanted so he started using bamboo handles and that's become a very Gucci detail. Then of course there's the red and green stripes that we see on shoes and handbags and other accessories and there's also the two interlocking Gs that make the Gucci logo. Those are of course the initials of the founder, Guccio Gucci. The 1970s were really like a high time for Gucci and they initiated a ready to wear line and a lot of the clothes had fur and leather trim. Obviously that was very appropriate for Gucci because that was really their business, but by the 1980s the brand had lost a little bit of its luster due in part to some scandals within the family, but just also changing fashions. By the end of the 80s the time was right to renovate the brand. That's a little bit about the history of Gucci, some of their accessories and the company history leading up to the 1980s.

Jeanne Beker host of CTV's FashionTelevision and Bonnie Brooks, CEO of the Bay participated in Humber College's inaugural ICONIC INTERVIEW event, inspiring and motivating Fashion Arts students while encouraging them to be brave and step outside of their comfort zone. "Fear is a good thing. If your palms don't sweat when you hear an idea, it's probably not a good one," said Brooks to the more than 300 students, faculty, media and fashion industry insiders in attendance. The open interview between two of the most influential women in Canadian fashion, was part of a unique learning opportunity for students in Humber's Fashion programs. Beker interviewed Brooks on topics including fashion design, business trends, the power of marketing and the future of retailing. Brooks has transformed the Bay, a 96-year-old clothing retailer, into a more upscale store in her three years at the company. During the interview, she noted that her business approach is a different than most department stores, and that because the industry changes so rapidly, retailers need to be ready to adapt or lose out on customers. "I believe in luck, and I believe in people," she says. "A lot of it is about building relationships. I've built great brand relationships and they trust me." Brooks' success comes from her passion for fashion as well as her belief in the business of marketing. She worked at Fairweather and Holt Renfrew in increasingly senior marketing roles before taking control of the Lane Crawford chain in Asia, building it into a 500-store empire. After 11 years at Lane Crawford, and with multiple suitors wanting her to run their stores, Brooks decided to return to her Canadian roots by becoming president and CEO of the Bay. Beker is a fashion icon in her own right, having hosted FashionTelevision for more than 25 years on CTV. More recently, she has been a judge on Canada's Next Top Model and started her own clothing line for the Bay. "The hardest thing about being a success is remaining a success," says Beker. At the end of the interview, students had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with Beker and Brooks. In addition, the interview was broadcast throughout the Humber campus and also in the United Kingdom at Nottingham Trent University. The webcast can be seen at http://www.mediaservices.humber.ca.

Here's how a simple mark ends up meaning something big as a great logo. Joe Posner, and Michael Bierut (designer of the Hillary Clinton logo) explain. The biggest one in recent memory was the highly controversial Hillary Clinton logo, which did not escape scrutiny from Vox.com either. But as a designer/filmmaker, something about these repeated discussions struck me as missing the point on what makes logos tick. It often has little to do with the subjective musings. So I called up Michael Bierut, the designer of that Hillary Clinton logo and countless others. He sat down with me and helped explain the elements of a great logo in the video above. FASHION INDUSTRY BROADCAST STYLE ICONS Vol 4 Sirens Written by Paul G Roberts ISBN 978-1-62776-203-8 To be a star you need to rouse the senses, but to be a siren you must touch the heart. Their vulnerability, their daring and their sheer courage match the intensity of human beauty concentrated in the most famous female sex symbols of the twentieth century. To say they had real social power would be an injustice. Mata Hari, wrongly accused of espionage, wound up decapitated after her execution, with her head embalmed and kept in the museum of anatomy in Paris. It's hardly a state funeral or a fitting homage to a woman who wriggled public consciousness out the Victorian era dressed as Hindu priestess. Hollywood royalty such as Grace Kelly and Elizabeth Taylor seemed to exercise more choice; having come from cultivated backgrounds and targeted their ambitions on the "costumed" work of big screen acting and the social mobility of ambitious marriages. Here we present the lives and legends of the Sirens. STYLE ICONS Vol 4 Sirens features; Marlene Dietrich, Betty Grable, Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda, Madonna, Lauren Bacall, Twiggy. These Famous Music Artists Are Also Fashion Icons, Here's Why: https://www.essence.com/fashion/black-music-month-artists-fashion-icons. Thanks for watching, subscribe for more videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLNpqfuDg5IOIFN1CMz6ENA?sub_confirmation=1 Hip-Hop and R&B artists have earned great clout in the fashion industry as they set trends and push boundaries with their style in music videos, performances, and red carpet appearances. Music artists such as Beyoncé, Janelle Monae, and Pharrell are sought after everywhere - just to get a glimpse of what they're wearing. Their styles are unmatched and remain versatile, when it comes to both music and fashion. In honor of Black Music Month, let’s recognize the musicians that also continue to make great strides and influence in the fashion industry. Beyonce Beyonce’s presence on red carpets is scarce but we’re always blessed when she does show up because she simply never disappoints. She always makes it to the top of our best-dressed list, and keeps us scrolling through her Instagram feed for more. Our adored songstress received CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award in 2016, and has her own fashion brand, Ivy Park. Rihanna She has received some of the most prestigious awards in fashion, such as the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award and honored at the 2017 Parsons Benefit. Alongside her successful music career, she’s collaborated with fashion brands, Manolo Blahnik and Puma. Also, the artist has her own lingerie line, Savage x Fenty. Solange Solo is an artist in her own lane who was recently honored at the 2018 Parson Benefit for her originality and own initiative to create opportunities for inclusivity. She’s constantly pushing boundaries through her style. Janelle Monae The R&B/soul singer is always dressed up to the nines. She always expresses herself through her bold and chic style. She was awarded the CFDA Fashion Icon Award in 2017, and starred in Gap's holiday campaign. Pharrell Pharrell has a laundry list of hit records and capsule collections with some of the greatest fashion brands. He has collaborations with fashions brands such as Adidas, Timberland, Moncler, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, in addition to leading his own brand, Billionaire Boys Club. Andre 3000 Andre 3000 is simply the coolest – his swag is prominent in everything he does and wears. The rapper’s style has remained unique and unparalleled since he stepped on the music scene. Now he has a capsule collection with Tretorn, and is (hopefully, still) crafting a t-shirt line inspired by his love for Anita Baker. ASAP Rocky The hip-hop artist, sometimes known as ‘Fashion Killa,’ has made his presence known in the fashion industry. His music career is complimented with being the face of Dior Homme, modeling for DKNY, and collaborations with J.W. Anderson and Guess. #TheseFamous MusicArtistsAreAlsoFashionIconsHere, #Why #BeyonceKnowles, #SolangeKnowles, #Rihanna, #PharrellWilliams, #JanelleMonae
